"Then as to scenery (giving my own thought and feeling), while I know the standard claim is that Yosemite, Niagara Falls, the Upper Yellowstone, and the like afford the greatest natural shows, I'm not so sure but the prairies and plains, while less stunning at first sight, last longer, fill the aesthetic sense fuller, precede all the rest, and make North America's characteristic landscape. ...Even their [the prairies'] simplest statistics are sublime." --Walt Whitman, Specimen Days (1879)

The Great Plains, once the largest of the four major grasslands on earth, is defined as that strip of land approximately 400 miles wide and lying just east of the Rocky Mountains. It extends some 2500 miles from central Canada to Mexico including parts of thirteen states and three provinces. Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota and Iowa are all part of the Great Plains.

The Konza Press, was founded in 1997 to showcase the people, places and rich traditions of the Great Plains through the work of native artists, writers and photographers. Our popular gift-books, greeting cards and other products have been widely distributed throughout the area. All of the images in our galleries are limited-edition, fine-art prints signed and numbered by the artist.
